Community Involvement

Amputee Awareness presentations have been given to local Brownie and Girl Guide groups and Service Clubs.

Presentations have been given in St. Catharines and London, Ontario at Amputee Conferences. Information tables were also set up.

Presentations have been made to Personal Support worker classes at The Lake Port Adult Learning Centre and St. Elizabeth.

We made a presentation to the Lincoln County Elementary School Board during their Safety Awareness Week.

Presentations have also been made to various church groups.

The NAA has participated in the annual Niagara Falls Santa Claus parade for the past thirteen years. This has been made possible by the generosity of the 13th Street Bakery and Marketplace who provided both a truck and driver.

Current Projects and Activities

In collaboration with Hotel Dieu and Shaver Hospitals a booklet consisting of a compilation of our members true stories has been created. This is part of the information package received by new amputees through the Visitation Program. Our experience shows that ignorance of the facts is the greatest cause of fear and anxiety for new amputees. This information will help alleviate their fear and help them to get on with their lives.

In October 2016 the NAA opened an office at Brock University’s Niagara Centre for Health and Well Being located at 130 Lockhart Drive in St. Catharines. We currently employ students on a part time basis. Office hours are from 9:00 am to noon weekdays. The primary intent is to provide a centre of operations and to increase public visibility. Through the office and Brock University we offer an exercise program!
